One of my favorite people...
I once had a protégé or mentee who, unbeknownst to her, was considered the shining star in a vital effort to change the image of a company. To her surprise, she was promoted to "executive vice-president" (the 3rd highest position) in her Company. She describes the experience and how that situation prompted her towards seeking a mentor.
"It's like for my very 1st driving lesson, they sat me in the driver's seat, turned on the ignition, turned on the radio (loudly), turned up the heater (to high), turned on the windshield-wipers and headlights, belted me in, and with me being the only one in the vehicle, they said 'go on now, and remember to stay in the fast-lane... you'll be alright!' "
Coaches & Mentors: When do you need one? Usually your gut will tell you it's time to explore a mentoring relationship.
