It's a bird! It's a plane! No... It's a "project"! In my work-world everything is a project. But there are different kinds of projects. Some are "things" or definitive elements, that when a client asks me to take on, there will be an approval of a final version. (At least for that point in time.)
PROJECTS, SERVICES & PROGRAMS
Projects: For example, preparing and developing an employee handbook with (and for) a company is a project.
Designing a logo is also a "project". But what happens when a client wants to "brand" the logo across websites, products, services, etc.; and might want to add "slogans"? Then it is becoming a "service". (Yep, still a project for me though, albeit a more extended one.)
Services: "Content writing & copywriting" are great examples of "projects" that, by their nature, can become "services". By this I mean, usually there is a process involved with understanding what the client needs developed in regards to content.
It may be a "one-time" situation, i.e.; a "project". But sometimes it involves a series of content pieces. Maybe it's content for a new line of products, or an expansion of offices or practices; or things like employee handbooks that, after written, will need periodic updates and re-writes. (Which is a service that hopefully, I can provide you when you are pleased with the results of the initial project.)
Programs: And then you will find examples on this site, where a client wants to build a presentation for a "spot-light event", a speaking engagement, a booth for an industry gathering, or a presentation, ("dog & pony show" is not a derogatory term in my opinion). These are still "projects", but I have categorized them under the "Programs" section at the top-bar of this website.
Educational Programs: You will also find that I have developed an extensive list of "educational" or "professional development" programs. I posted a few excerpts from programs that are aimed at various position-levels within an organization; from public speaking for management-level employees, to communication skills for front-line personnel.
Developing a program entails: developing content, building visuals, maybe delivering a presentation, or maybe it involves delivering interactive modules for repeated and on-going training purposes. That's "program development" and yes, while it can take time, and be a more extended commitment, it is still a "project".
In summary: "Projects", "services" and "programs", yes there is overlap and wiggle room, but I'm a one-man outfit. So, as far as costs, due-dates, deadlines, and making you a satisfied client, there's not a lot of room for stuff to go "falling through the cracks".
All products, servcies, and programs are tailored to meet your specific needs.
